History

The history of the winery began in 1934 when Lorenzo Motti and Riziero Camellini decided to group together initially seven and then twelve growers of Lambrusco and of Ancellotta, in order to create a new production model in a region with a strong agricultural vocation: the hilly one that stretches south of Reggio Emilia. Gradually more and more grape producers associated themselves with their idea, and in 1936 the Cantina Albinea Canali was officially founded.

Its success was such that, in the decades that followed, the number of grape suppliers rose to one hundred and seventy. Famous for many years for the high quality of its bulk wines, today Cantina Albinea Canali can offer a range of high-quality products aimed at the restaurant sector.

The winery buildings, designed even in the minds of the founders as an avant-garde project, have been preserved and restored, combining period features with modern solutions and allowing for the introduction of state-of-the-art technology.

A flight over the hills where Lambrusco is grown, to discover a modern winery with ancient roots: a voyage exploring flavors that are capable of astounding us and remaining fresh and contemporary.

LAMBRUSCO

Lambrusco is one of Italy’s oldest grape varieties, whose praises were sung by Virgil and which was present even in ancient times in the area between Mantua and Emilia, the Po and the Apennines. Naturally fizzy, well-balanced and lively – characteristics that render it unmistakable – this wine is ideal for serving with all the richly flavored food products and recipes of the Emilia/Po region, but also makes a creative accompaniment for the international cuisine of today. Thanks to its light, versatile style, it is also perfect for convivial meetings and aperitivi.

Cantina Albinea Canali is the interpreter par excellence of the taste and distinctive character of Lambrusco. It harvests its grapes in a small area that offers the highest quality in terms of soils and climate of the whole of the Province of Reggio Emilia, and transforms them into a wine that conquers the palate of even the most curious and demanding of consumers.

OUR REGION

Our winery lies at the center of a fertile area just a short distance from Reggio Emilia, in a triangle of flat land bordered by the Crostolo and Tresinaro streams and the gentle slopes of the Apennines.

In this geographical context – characterized by a particularly favorable climate – olive trees grow spontaneously in the lower foothills and vines have always found an ideal habitat, thanks to good exposure to sunlight and the gravelly structure of the soils.

Here various types of Lambrusco – the undisputed iconic variety of the region – have been grown for generations, but other “international” vines are also at home in the area, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, the famous cultivar of French origin that thrives on hillside sites.

The land of this corner of Emilia, so generous and full of life, provides flavors and emotions that immerse themselves in the wines like a gentle breeze, giving them an unmistakable personality: a unique imprint that is as distinctive as our Lambrusco IGT.
